Wow~ it's been about a month since I posted! Life, as always, has been busy...working, walking, playing :). It's funny that despite so much going on, I really can't think of much to post about~ Did I tell you I got another pet? His name is Phoenix and he ia a red and blue beta fish. I saved him from our local Walmart. I say " I saved him" as the fish there were obviously being neglected. Some of them had barely enough water to cover their fins! I think they had been put on the shelf, forgotten about, and the water was evaporating out of the containers. I told the lady at customer service and she was going to have the person in charge of that department look into it. I hope she did... Anyway, Phoenix seems very happy in his new home complete with castle! Phoenix and a new CD headset were my early Mother's Day presents from my hubby. I told him I want to go to Moes for a pork bowl tomorrow for my dinner out, as I am actually working on Mother's Day. We may hit up a movie too. To all you Mother's out there~ Have a funtastic day on Sunday! And to my mom, who passed away years ago, I miss you & love you very much~ My CD headset has been so nice to keep me movin' and groovin'. I am easily getting the 7 miles a week in for the virtual walk to the 400 mile yard sale in KY, and I am enjoying researching and typing up the mailings. Sometimes it feels like I am really there! When my hubby and I travel out west this fall, he scheduled in for us to stop by an area along highway 68. It will be interesting to see it in person. My sister and I took a 3 day trip in late April to see some of our kids. We stopped by her youngest daughter's college first and took her out to dinner. Then we went to my son and daughter-in-laws home and spent 2 nights with them. The last day we stopped by her son's new apartment and took him to lunch. Of course we got in some shopping along the way! I bought a few different things; the best bargain being at a clothing sale purchasing a stretch denim jacket, a pair of denim capris, 2 spring tops, and a new bathing suit all for $5! The 28th of April, my hubby and I and our two kids and their spouses traveled to the RU Spring game. There were RU alumni players who had made pro ball (NFL) and we got several signatures, then had a tailgate picnic, then watched the game. It was so nice to have the whole family together. We even ran into 2 long time friends who we hadn't seen in a long while! I have been doing my yearly maintenance appointments~mammogram. dentist etc., having outings with friends, spending time at the lake fishing and relaxing in our new anti-gravity recliners! It all keeps me pretty busy! June 2nd is our town yard sale day and I only have one box gathered so far as I just haven't had time to focus on it! That being said, I suppose I should get off the computer and do something constructive. I have been looking through your friend entries, though I haven't had time to comment~ please know you are all in my heart! Gotta run~ |

Feeling better...not quite 100%, but better. My neighbor/friend is going to drop off a BP cuff for me to see how the med's working for me as mine is out on loan to someone else. First thing this morning I got a call from that friend that a mutual neighbor/elderly friend had fallen and couldn't get up. I went over and together we got her off the floor and settled back in a chair. In looking around I could see she is a hoarder. There were piles with pathways...very dangerous for anyone, but especially for an elderly person. She has diabetes, so we stayed to make sure her blood sugar was ok and she took her meds and had something to eat and drink. We offered to help her in any way we could and made sure she had her phone nearby. By her responses, one could tell she wants to maintain her independence. Fortunately, both neighbors (who live alone) agreed to call each other everyday just to check in and make sure everything is ok. Unfortunately, that neighbor seems somewhat resistant for us to come help her organize for a safer environment. Guess we'll have to abide by her rules and pace. Well, I just finished my breakfast and took my meds. Time to go for a walk~ Have a nice Sunday everyone. |

Yesterday was a scary day~ I have noticed that my diastolic BP, on occasion, has been creeping up alittle...not enough to treat according to my MD at my yearly visit. Sometimes I've noted, among other things, my fingers swelling, feeling "fuzzy" etc. and thought to myself, "I hope this isn't blood pressure related". Yesterday I was scheduled to work at the hospital and I did go in at 7 a.m. for my 12 hr. shift , though I really wasn't feeling right. It was hard to explain...just tired...hard to focus...kinda out of body. My brain and skull didn't feel connected. And I was shakey. When I got to work I asked a friend/co-worker to check my BP for me. It was 181/91! Two of my co-workers said I didn't look quite right. In report I felt a pain up the back of my head. The team leader compassionately told me I should call my doctor ASAP. We were very busy and I felt it was my obligation to take care of my 2 babies at that point so, since the office didn't open for a bit, I went about my work. The feeling got worse and I made some charting errors etc. from not being able to focus... It was just not like me & making me very upset. My nurse manager came in and I assumed the team leader had filled her in. By the time first rounds were done no one followed up with me so, near 10 a.m., I went to the manager myself. I told her what was going on and that I planned on calling my doctor. I hoped he could possibly call in medication for me. She told me we were too busy in the unit and there was too much going on over in labor that she couldn't release me to leave... I barely knew how to respond. I'm concerned about stroking out and she's saying I can't leave! She did tell me if I wanted to call my doctor about medication to go ahead and get back to her. I then called and explained to the MD office everything that was happening. I was told to come right in or to go to the emergency room! I talked to my manager after the phone call and told her what I was told and she again said I couldn't leave until she found coverage for me! Over an hour + later, she had found someone to replace me and I was able to leave at noon. I drove directly to my doctor's office 50 minutes away, the whole time thinking I probably should not be driving! By the time I arrived, my BP was even higher~diastolically 102! My doctor did a complete exam and was glad I came right there. He prescribed medication for me and told me to rest the weekend and not work until previously scheduled next Tuesday. As the medication took effect, I could feel the pain in my head go away and my focus come back. I got less shakey, just remained very tired. I tried to call my manager to let her know I was doing ok, but she had left for the day. ~ I am thankful for those who were compassionate, disappointed by those who weren't, grateful for medication which quickly averts disaster, and mostly awed by a loving God who decided it was not my time! In my recover time this weekend, I am reading a Chicken Soup for the Soul Healthy Living Series on Heart Disease. I am also developing a virtual walk to do with a few of my friends based on the 400 mile yard sale in Kentucky. Both will keep me on track for exercise and lifestyle changes. Though I have lost some weight, since my high of 220lb., I am in the early stages and value the love and support of family and friends in my efforts. Any encouragement would be appreciated.~ :) |

Happy Leap Year~ Don't feel much like leaping today. I have been sick since the weekend and am worn out. Am supposed to work the next 2 days....am kinda doubtful right now about that. I'm tired of sitting around but I wear out quickly. Maybe I'll sort through some old magazines since the trash goes out tonight. That would at least be something productive to do while I veg. We are getting snow here in NEPA today. Can't really complain as we haven't had much all winter. I'm not a fan of snow from the driving aspect, but it is peaceful looking as it falls softly to the ground. I'm thinking my next car will be a small SUV that will handle well in bad weather. I Iike the Honda CR-V, the Nissan Juke, and the Subaru Forester. Any thoughts on which is best? It probably won't be for another year or so. I have time to think about it and check them out. I am reading a precious book I picked up somewhere in my ventures through antique stores called, "Gipsy's Early Days" by Josephine Pollard and published in 1873. It's cover is well worn and the pages are stained from use. Turning each fragile page connects me not only to the tale and the storyteller, but also binds me with those who before me have held this gem in their hands and in their hearts. Somehow, I do not think one can get the same feeling reading from today's technology such as a Kindle or Nook. My friend just stopped by with potato salad for me. We had some mint tea and she shared with me her pictures from a recent cruise she and her daughter went on to Haiti and Jamaica. Now, my daughter called and is venturing out in this weather to come visit today. She is going to help her father rip boards tonight for a gun cabinet project he is making for her brother. I will close for now~ |

My hubby and I went to my son and daughter-in-law's for the weekend. We had so much fun! We arrived Friday night. Our son was working so we chilled out with our daughter-in-law. She and I outlasted my hubby who went to bed at around 11. We stayed up talking 'til 1! My son had to do OT at work and got in at 3 a.m. Saturday, the 4 of us attended the Eastern Sport and Outdoor Show. We enjoyed walking through all the fishing and hunting exhibits. Our daughter-in-law was thrilled to see Trent Cole, from the Eagles, was there and he gave her an autograph and allowed us to take a picture of them together! He has his own line of hunting stuff. After the show we headed back to their home, stopping at Chipolte for dinner and Coldstone for dessert. I had never eaten at either and they both were delicious! We played Trango and vegged out, going to bed again around 11. Today my hubby and son played an EFL superbowl game against each other. My hubby was the Giants and my son was the Patriots. My son's Giants won 7-6 over my hubby's Patriots...so we'll have to see who really wins! (Our actual team is the Eagles, but my hubby and son have a tradition of playing the competing teams against each other every year just for fun.) My hubby and I had a date day last Thursday evening. We went to a local restaurant that was having a German night. The menu was homemade pumpernickel and rye breads, marinated cucumber salad w/ dill sour cream dressing, bratwurst and sauerkraut w/ German mustard, Sauerbraten, Jagerschnitzel, German potatoes, red cabbage, and homemade apple strudel! Needless to say, my weightloss efforts have suffered a bit this week. I'm not even weighing in today! lol I work tomorrow so I'm signing off for now~bye. |

Happy February! It's a sunny, beautiful day! As of today, my work classes (NRP, CPR, and S.T.A.B.L.E.) are finally all up to date and I can breath~ I still need to work on my 30 Ceus for my license renewal, but at least that is not due until April 2013. Right now our unit census is down at work. I was mandated on Sunday. Though it was nice to have the day off to study and do some household & fun things, it was not nice to be off with no pay. I haven't gotten home care time recently either. That's alittle concerning... I have been stress munching today despite the completion of testing. Not sure why, I just know thats gotta stop! Talked to my B~ Perhaps I'll go take a walk and come back to this. |
