It was a nice weekend at work...busy, but a nice crew on (for the most part). I am grateful for co-workers who are friendly and kind. It makes work a better place. Our department recently had a mandatory "Code of Conduct" inservice. Some of the staff rolled their eyes and made fun of the content. I thought it was very good. We should be mindful of how we treat patients and each other. We are professionals and should act as such. We signed a commitment to excellence statement. I am hopeful that it will be the groundwork to weed out those who should not be there. We each had to make a personal statement of commitment. I said I would strive to make uplifting comments and not get sucked into negative dialog. It is so easy to get pulled into the gutter. There are nurses who have never accepted the group of us who came from our previous place of employment when our unit closed down. We have been called "stupid and worthless" as a group and have each been victims of individual condescending comments as well. It's been difficult to not get sucked into talking about the instigators in return...but it doesn't solve anything...and it sure doesn't make us any better than them. I just want to be able to go to work, focus on my patients, and do my job in a pleasant environment.
Tomorrow, my sister, my daughter, one of my daughter's friends/housemate, and I are going to start a program called "Simple Steps" based on a book by the same name. It is a 10 week program to getting control of your life, focusing on health, weight, home, and spirit. I am excited about it. I have to read the first chapter tonight to see what we are to work on for the next 7 days. My daughter made us work sheets to keep track of our progress. I'm sure I'll be journaling my progress from time to time.
When my son was home this weekend he informed us that he worked with his school advisor to send resumes out for potential jobs once he graduates in May. Most of the resumes went to motocross racing teams in California. I am excited for him. I hope he has a positive response from his applications.
We are having our Thanksgiving next Saturday. I work Thanksgiving night, and Saturday works out well for the rest of our family too, so that's the day. My hubby and I went grocery shopping this morning and got our turkey, etc. I hope all of you are getting your preparations for the holiday finalized as well.
I find my mind drifting with the short hours of sleep today after getting home from work and grocery shopping so I'll go for now. Have a good night.

What a day. I met up with my sister and we got some Christmas shopping done and spent time chattin' at the bookstore. I had a decaf caramel brulee latte~ yummy!!! While there I called my son to see what time he was getting home and he told me he was broken down along side the interstate...said his truck "blew up!" Fortunately he was fine and had gotten a hold of my hubby who was already enroute to his rescue. As I type, they are on their way back home. Then on my way home, I called my sister to tell her it all worked out ok with my son and she told me her son was hit by a car out at school! It was a hit and run. He was ok too, thank God, and I guess they did find the car that hit him...he had left a dent in it!!! These boys~ OY!!! I thank and praise God over and over for His protection over all of our children. The day could have ended very differently.

I noticed I put troops in my gratitudes when I already listed armed forces previously. Although I am doubley grateful for them, I thought I should list another thing to keep the count up...
how about...sprinklers!
I am off today to meet up with my sister for a day out. I may try to get some Christmas shopping done. I also need more pages for the scrapbook of my trip, cat litter, and a card.
My son is supposed to be coming home tonight for the opening of the second Twilight movie. My daughter bought him tickets, which I think is so nice of her as she is tight financially but wanted him to be able to go. I haven't seen either movie but I saw a clip yesterday and it seems right up their alley. I'm sure they will enjoy it.
I have to work this weekend (first time back since vaca). I hope it is doable as I was told there are many inductions and C-sections scheduled to get babies born before Thanksgiving.
Well, I'm off~ have a great day!

Got my laundry done, now I gotta pack. Am tryin' to decide if I want to take my CD player or not. I love my piano music and don't get to just lay back and let the melodies flow through me...but quiet is rare as well. I always tend to overpack. What to do, what to do.
My daughter and I are traveling to see my son at school tomorrow. There were some items he needed so we're taking them to him and will take him out to lunch. I am looking forward to a day with my kids.
I'm enjoying my gratitude entries. I got a late start and with vacation and all, making daily contributions the whole month of November will just not happen. Therefore, I thought I'd make a few extra this evening~

(Are you detecting a pattern here?!?)

Wow. Was I ever tired last night at work. Actually it was a good thing there was a full house as it kept me moving clear until this a.m. I'm having to stay up to get laundry done for our trip. My bed is surely calling me though...
I stopped on the way home at my favorite christian coffee house to have breakfast with a friend. We hadn't seen each other for about a week so it was fun to dine and catch up.
Uhhh. I just nodded off for an hour! My first load of laundry's done and I got the second over into the dryer. I'm gonna list my "thankful fors" before I fall asleep again~

This morning I pulled out all the new clothes I bought in the Spring for our trip to Jamaica next week. It was a fun surprise to see all the pretty colors and textures as I had not remembered most of what I purchased. I got a suitcase down from the attic and started a list of all the extra things I want to pack as well. I am getting very excited as we leave on Sunday! Not only will it be a relaxing get-a-way, but hopefully a time to reflect & refocus on life, and to reconnect as a couple with my hubby as well. As a bonus for signing up for our trip when we did, we get spa and gift shop credit. I have picked out 3 spa treatments of interest. I am looking forward to the pampering :)
I put my name on the cancel list at work for tonight. I feel like I would like the extra day to prepare for our trip. Keep your fingers crossed for me that I may have off, will you?
Today I am thankful for~
new clothes that make me feel pretty
games and puzzles that keep my mind sharp
my senses that allow me to see, hear, taste, touch, and smell
new days to start again
forgiveness, that's freeing
choices
cardinals
date nights
ocean waves
indoor plumbing!

Wow. Where does the time go? I haven't made an entry since Oct. 20th.
My birthday was wonderful, a celebration extending over a couple of days. "Amelia" was a movie definately worth seeing. It inspires one to pursue their dreams, despite the odds. I am blessed with family and friends who made my special occasion memorable.
I attended one of the local craft fairs the weekend after my birthday. I was able to find a few gift items for my daughter for Halloween and I even treated myself to a pair of whimsical earrings that look like tiny ice cream sundaes topped with a cherry!
The 26th and 27th, I oriented on day shift at work to team leader duties. It was crazy busy and JAHCO came for a surprise inspection! I did learn alot though, and was happy to spend time with a friend from my former job who holds the team leader position on days at my new job. (I still need to orient with a team leader on nights before I take my turn as team leader though. Their are some responsibilities that are different on nights than days.)
Wednesday I had my follow-up doctor's appt. My fasting sugar still came back borderline elevated, as did my A1C. My cortisol level was also up there (that's the stress hormone~gee, no surprise there!) I was ordered more tests and depending on how they come back will determine if I need to see an endocrinologist or not. It was recommended that I see a chiropractor for alignment issues and I got the name of a councelor to see for the stress. (I had the 1st chiropractor and councelor visits today. I was pleasantly surprised with the treatments I got at the chiropractor. A combination of heat, ultrasound, massage, electric stim, and adjusting left me feeling very pampered. Tonight I'm a bit sore, but she said that was to be expected. The counceling session was also very therapuetic. I am challenged to ponder trust until we meet again.)
The 29th I met my sister at the bookstore where we meet up from time to time 1/2 way between our homes. We had such a fun get together. She had picked a puzzle book up from the bargain books and we spent the better part of an hour and a half trying to solve some of them. We got to laughing over our apparent lack of sense over some of the puzzles. I bought a book called: "Simple Steps, 10 weeks to Getting Control of Your Life" and an "Attitudes of Gratitude, Guided Journal" that I am planning to start once we get back from Jamaica.
I have finished my bible study and will be posting notes from the final chapter soon. Right now I am reading a book by Stormie Omartain called "Praying for Your Adult Children." It is a very, very good book and one I would highly recommend for recent empty nesters.
On the weekend, I worked. In my last 3 work days I have been assigned to the nursery, the NICU, and to lactation. I really enjoy mixing it up like that. It keeps work interesting.
My son was home this past weekend. He brought 2 friends with him from school. They seemed like very nice young men. They were in and out alot but I was glad to spend what time I could with my son while he was here. He had finals for the first trimester on Monday. I talked to him on the phone tonight and he said he did ok and will start the 2nd trimester on Friday. I talked to my daughter tonight as well. We are getting together on Friday and I am looking forward to that.
Well, I think that is it in a nutshell. I have been so enjoying everyones gratitude journaling this month so I would like to add my own grateful thoughts tonight~
I am thankful~
to be blessed with family and friends who love me
for Arnie, my little buddy who sleeps beside me as I'm journaling
my home, cozy with my electric woodstove
my lake get-a-way, a piece of heaven on earth
my car, that takes me anywhere I want to go
vacations, rejuvenation for my soul
humor, that keeps me sane
comfy clothes and comfort foods
days out with my sisterchicks
music, sweet sweet music

Nite all.

I have been busy, so I thought I'd take a few moments to post a quick update.
Saturday, a dear friend from out of state came for a visit. She, my hubby and I spent the day galavanting. We went to a Fancy Fair held in a neighboring town at a structure known as "The Oldest House" built in 1781. Things were a bit picked over as it was the second day of the fair, but we had an enjoyable lunch of soup and sandwiches before venturing on to the library booksale room in another small town near our home. All three of us found treasures there! I got the following books, many in hardback, all for only $5.50 total!~
- "Hugs for Coffee Lovers"
- "The Wildwater Walking Club"
- "Sinbad's guide to Life [because I know everything]"
- Dear America "My Heart Is on the Ground"
- "The Quiet Little Women, A Christmas Story"
- "Attic Treasures"
- "Close Friends"
- "Welcome to the Funny Farm, The All-True Misadventures of a Woman on the Edge"
- "Pearl Harbor Child"
Is it any wonder at that price that I have more books than I could read in a lifetime?!?
We then made a quick stop at Wal-mart, went down along the river and parked so we could read abit before going to the 4:15 p.m. movie "Zombieland". (Hey it wasn't my idea! My hubby thought it looked funny and he did actually laugh alot throughout the showing. I, on the other hand, sat there rather grossed out and kept thinking, "why are we here"?!?) All in all it was a fun time with our friend. She left Sunday morning.
I worked Sunday night. I was supposed to be in the NICU, but a friend of mine went home sick so I got pulled back to mom/baby. I was alittle disappointed as I had a wonderful assignment in the NICU and I don't get to work there that much...but oh well. I slept most of yesterday, got up and went with a friend to a local restaurant for a late lunch, then headed back to the hospital for a meeting last night.
Lunch was so yummy yesterday. The restaurant is under new management since I was there last, so it was nice to see what they had to offer. They were very accomodating to my dietary restrictions. I had a pork BBQ and it was to die for!
The meeting last night was a skills session that was mandatory attendance. I drove myself and a new co-worker who doesn't live too far from me. We had no difficulty keeping the conversation going. She is extremely nice. The skills session was set up in stations. We went from table to table to listen to each topic's presentation and we had a paper to get signed and questions to answer on each lecture. It took about 2 hours. On the way home, my friend/co-worker and I stopped at Taco Bell for a late dinner. (I had to eat by 8:30 p.m. as I was having blood work this morning and had to fast 12 hours for it).
I got home a bit ago from my doctor's office. They took vials and vials of blood. I am praying for low numbers (like on the sugar test) when I go to my visit next week for the results. I really haven't been good. I have such a sweet tooth... At least I'll get a baseline and can go from there. My routine appointment is in Jan./Feb. If anything's out of whack I'll probably opt to do dietary restriction etc. and get rechecked then.
I haven't read the last chapter of my bible study yet. I will finish it shortly and will post my last lengthy review for those who are interested :).
My birthday is this week, the 22nd. I'll be 51 (*cringe*) years young. I am getting together with some friends for breakfast and am looking forward to that. Friday, the "Amelia Erheart" (spelling?) movie is coming out and my hubby, my daughter, and I have plans to go to dinner and that show (which is much more up my alley that a zombie movie!!! lol).
I work tonight so I should close for now and get ready for my nap. It's so sunny and beautiful out here today. I hope it is nice the rest of the week when I am actually off to enjoy it!
